WASHINGTON, February 13, 2025 – “AASCU congratulates our 158 member institutions awarded Research 1, Research 2, or Research Colleges and Universities (RCU) Carnegie Classification status. This list includes 29 historically Black colleges and universities, 44 Hispanic-Serving Institutions, one Predominately Black Institution, 26 Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions, one Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian-Serving Institution, and 53 Rural-Serving Institutions.
The expansion of the Carnegie Classification’s research activity designations strengthens the pool of eligible campuses, and that’s excellent news for regional public universities (RPUs). We know the research at RPUs contributes tremendously to the economic development and prosperity of their communities and regions.
Our members conduct applied research and groundbreaking research that is advancing our country’s standing as a scientific powerhouse.
This Carnegie recognition is an impressive honor that is richly deserved. Congratulations!”
