Amy Chasteen

Amy L. Chasteen, executive vice provost at the University of Southern Mississippi, has over 25 years of higher education experience as a professor and administrator. As a sociologist, Chasteen has taught 5,000+ students in more than a dozen classes, including gender and sexuality, sociology of health, deviant behavior, and race and ethnicity. Her teaching background and perspective as a sociologist now inform her work as an administrator. In her current role, Chasteen leads institutional efforts around enrollment management, student success, and faculty development. She oversees a dozen offices, including the Center for Faculty Development, the Center for Student Success, and the University Advisement Center. Through collaborative engagement across a variety of areas, she develops and implements key initiatives to promote evidence-based practices, increased equity, and long-term social change. Chasteen earned her Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Michigan, where she also obtained a graduate certificate in women’s and gender studies. She holds an M.A. in sociology from the University of Tennessee and a B.A. from the University of Alabama.
