Clarenda Phillips is the provost and vice president for academic affairs and professor of sociology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She also served as provost and vice president for academic affairs and student life at Notre Dame of Maryland University, which has the only women’s college in the state of Maryland. During her tenure at Morehead State University (Ky.), Phillips held several positions, including associate vice president of academic affairs, director of the Interdisciplinary Women’s Studies Program, and chair of the sociology, social work, and criminology department. Her teaching and research have focused on the intersectionality of race, gender, and class and the sociology of mental health. She earned her bachelor’s degree from DePauw University, her master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and her M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary.
