Julie Whitlow - AASCU

Julie Whitlow

Vice-Provost for Faculty and Global Engagement

Salem State University (MA)

Julie Whitlow is the vice provost for faculty and global engagement at Salem State University. She has her doctorate in applied linguistics and has long worked with international students. For over two decades she was a professor in the English department at Salem State, where she also coordinated the Master of Arts in teaching English to speakers of other languages. She strongly believes that international education and exchange is the most powerful way to create meaningful cross-cultural understanding. Whitlow has been a Fulbright scholar in Nicaragua, an Erasmus+ visiting lecturer in Poland, a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco, and a Whiting fellow in China. She is currently directing an IDEAS grant from the U.S. State Department and a Partners of the Americas grant. Both provide opportunities for Salem State students to experience the world.
