Sue Borrego is a student-centered leader with a commitment to academic innovation and a passion for community transformation. She is an accomplished educator, administrator, and former chancellor at the University of Michigan-Flint. Borrego is a nationally known leader and advocate for student success, particularly for traditionally underrepresented students. Recognized as an expert on access and inclusion, she has served on numerous boards and national task forces. She currently holds a tenured faculty appointment in the School of Education and Human Services at the University of Michigan-Flint. Known for crisis management in addition to increasing student success, Borrego provided critical leadership for the campus and community organizations during the Flint water crisis. Under her leadership, the university experienced increases in retention and graduation rates. The university’s footprint grew by 25%, including breaking ground on a 65,000 square-foot addition to the science facilities, establishing the School of Nursing, raising over $57 million, and adding 15 new innovative academic programs, including green chemistry and physician’s assistant programs.
