Virginia (Ginny) Arthur became the seventh president of Metropolitan State University (MN), a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, on July 1, 2016. She joined the university in 2012 as provost and executive vice president. Arthur serves on the AASCU Board of Directors, the executive committee of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU), and the boards of Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact (IAMNCC), the Central Corridor Anchor Partnership, and Black Men Teach. She is also chair of the board for Communidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio (CLUES). Arthur was honored as one of 50 “Women in Business” by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal in 2019 and was named to AARP’s 2020 50 Over 50 list. Previously, she served as associate provost for faculty affairs at the University of Northern Iowa from 2009–2012 and was a faculty member in business law and strategy at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University from 1985–2009. Arthur holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Syracuse University (NY) and a Juris Doctor from the American University Washington College of Law. She has presented at numerous conferences and authored dozens of publications.
